About Rodeo Producer

New but Not New to Rodeo

10+ Years in Rodeo

Rodeo Producer is new but we are not new to the Rodeo Industry. Our involvement in the Rodeo Industry began in 2013 when we began the programming of a software package to replace an archaic piece of software that a local rodeo association was using. That software went live in 2014 and each successive rodeo season we added more rodeo associations and built more options and features based on user requests. We continued learning and improving.

Rodeo Management System

Our strong growth made us an acquisition target and we sold the Rodeo Management System in 2022 but that didn't stop our involvement in the industry. We stayed active, helping rodeo associations, barrel racing associations, barrel jackpot producers, and team roping producers, with a variety of services.

The Next Chapter

We are not walking away from the rodeo industry, but our offerings have changed. We will continue to build solutions for the rodeo industry.

Our Philosophy

Love What you do

Before we were in the rodeo industry, we were in the outdoors industry, we still are. We have always believed that if you don't find your work interesting, you cannot produce interesting work. Hunting and Fishing have long been a passion and decades of time working in and for the industry have continued to fuel our passions.

find people with similar passions

The passions, the dedications, the grit and determination of the rodeo industry grabbed us early on.  While we have never competed, we have learned to understand and respect the passion of the competitors and the organizers and we have been able to feed off that to grow our own excitement for the sport and the industry.

In our years and our interactions with the rodeo industry, we often find a significant cross-over to the outdoors industry. The lifestyles, the values, the appreciation for hard work, and the tradition of earning the spoils of your efforts runs strongly through both.

Commitment

The rodeo industry doesn't stop on weekends, that's your peak days of the week. We know. We are available when you need us.

The Rodeo ProducerTM Origin Story

When we are on the phone, doing a live demo of our software, or helping a client with some of the features, we often get asked about our own rodeo background and what brought us to develop the Rodeo ProducerTM?

The first part is easy to answer. We don't have a rodeo competition background but have all been bucked off a horse at some time. For me, it was at my uncle's farm when my cousins would give me the young horse and then slap it on the ass at some point in the ride. Inevitably, being a novice on a horse, I was falling off. It was better the sooner I fell off. But I'm stubborn, so I got back on.

For us, our sporting lives generally revolved around hockey (how Canadian!), baseball, and a few high school sports such as volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track and field.

We developed a number of software products and sites in support of, and in pursuit of, our sporting passions including  websites for hunting and fishing.  I also was the head guide at a waterfowl hunting camp for a number of years. So sports have been an ingrained part of our lives.

Rodeo Software

The second part of the answer is the more interesting part, as far as we are concerned. A lot of people we have met in the business of rodeo grew up in rodeo, are still actively involved in rodeo, and have children growing up in rodeo. We took a much different path to the rodeo industry. The beginnings are in 2014.

We had been in the website development business for a few decades, a number of years before any thoughts of a rodeo management software system bounced around in our heads. Our client base stretched geographically from coast to coast in Canada and southward as far as Texas. We cover a number of industries, some commercial, some industrial, many in the outdoors industries of hunting outfitters and fishing lodges. One client was a rodeo association. The initial project was just redesign of their website. As the project progressed, we were asked to build in some procedures so the rodeo association could upload PDFs, spreadsheets, and text files of rodeo schedules, draws, results, standings, etc. Well, we were horrified! This was how they had been doing it since the dawn of the internet, but why were they still in the dark ages of technology? They explained why they did what they did by giving us a demo of the rodeo software they were using. Our horror was compounded as they showed us the process to enter data, re-enter data, re-enter data, export data, construct spreadsheets, lose data, start over, and fill up a week with little value added work.

It was not part of the original plan, but the more questions we asked, the more we both saw the opportunity to build something that was simply better. We sat down and mapped out the requirements, then we got to work.

Developing the Tools

During the development process, a common question from us was, "Why do you do it that way?" The common answer was, "that is how the software works". We learned all the rodeo terminology, wondered why certain things were called what they were, and then learned some more.

We continued building, from the front end to the back end, all the while planning out a system that we could eventually take beyond one customer. A web-based multi-user system with the ability to custom tailor the options. We built. We tested. We revised. We built more and then in Spring of 2015 we went live with our first rodeo association. During that first season, we identified more tools, more enhancements, and found ways to make numerous functions easier to use.

After a first successful season, we began to contact other rodeo associations to tell them about the rodeo management software we had to offer. After all, it already had all the tools any rodeo would need. Development done. We thought, just add on another user and away we go. It wasn't too long and rodeo association #2 was asking us to show them what the rodeo management software could do. They had questions like, "What about this feature?", "What about this payout formulas?", "What about these kind of events?". We quickly learned, development wasn't done yet. Not fearing a challenge, we told customer #2, "We dont have that, yet.", and that has been our answer, to everyone, ever since.

Rodeo Management Plus Plus Plus

So we added new features, built new options, learning from each customer as they came on board. The key learning was that every rodeo association has something they do that is different, that is uniquely their own way. We have taken the approach that a custom feature for one rodeo association can become a standard feature for all associations. Then, when another rodeo association needs that feature it's already there. Looking back to that first set of requirements, in the decade since our first rodeo management software hit the market, we more than tripled the number of features in the system.

Introducing Rodeo Producer

We have moved on from the original rodeo management software we built 10 years ago and we are now introducing the new Rodeo Producer, built from the ground up with many enhancements and a 20% increase in features from where we left off with the old software.

Now when we bring a new customer on board to the system and they ask "What about this?", we often already have the option or the feature built. If not, we go back to the early years (only a few years ago) and say, "We don't have that, yet." Then we get to the programming desk and develop another rodeo management option, feature, or setting.

We hope that this little peak into the story behind Rodeo ProducerTM helps you understand where we came from and our philosophy of always continuously improving our software. We believe that our story is just the early chapters of a longer story.
